I really regret seeing Dr. Sweinhart. While the front desk staff and nurse were lovely, my experience with him was awful. He removed three of my moles, and the sutures were way too tight, causing a lot of pain. He insisted on leaving the stitches in for three weeks, even though they should’ve been removed in 10-14 days. He also handwrote my prescriptions without including my last name or birthday, which is concerning.

After two weeks, my stitches got infected, and I ended up having a family member in the medical field remove them because my family and I did not want me to return to his office. I know these will scar badly, but I’m doing my best to minimize it.

I definitely wouldn’t recommend Dr. Sweinhart to anyone.

Giving this doctor even one star feels like too much. I had an absolutely terrible experience with Dr. Swinehart. My first consult, he barely looked at my skin and prescribed me an antibiotic (without telling me it was an antibiotic) and a topical which he also gave me no information on. I started the antibiotic and it made me feel terrible so I stopped, then when I went back in two weeks later, he tried to tell me 1. He told me it was an antibiotic (not true) and 2. That no one else he's prescribed it to has had a negative experience (I find that very hard to believe, and even so, I did so why are you being rude to me about it?). That is just one example of how rude and disrespectful he was to me throughout my two appointments. This man does not care about your skin and barely takes the time to talk to you to address what you need to do to fix it. Save your time and your money and find a derm who actually cares about their patients.

Dr. Swinehart has a pleasant bedside manner and comes across as professional. I inquired at the initial visit as to the estimated cost for his services, and he very much misrepresented the actual charges which came after two areas of basal cell carcinoma were excised for biopsy. A second visit was for tissue excision at his Denver office. I thought the plastic surgery result at the bridge of my nose was not that good, but could have been worse. His bill for two hours of face time was $6,622.00. He does his own biopsies/reports, so there is no independent assessment from another pathologist. Therefore there is every financial incentive for him to take as many tissue samples as possible, and to find as many cancer positives as possible. My insurance paid $5,666.81 which seems like generous payment to me, but he still billed me for another $938.24 which I am supposed to pay out-of-pocket. Because of the cost, I would surely look around for another dermatologist if a next time occurs.

I’ve had good experiences and results from Dr. Swinehart.

He has done biopsies and they were read by a secondary pathologist. (Not sure why other reviews say they were not).

He has also treated me for pscoriasis and acne. I have had significant improvement in both areas!

Everyone is nice and friendly in the office as well. Appointments are quick and the scheduling has never been an issue for me.

I would recommend this practice to anyone looking for a dermatologist!

I have been going to see Dr. Swinehart for many years. I suffered with severe acne as a kid and as a result I gained deep scarring on my face. I've had several services to take care of the scarring, performed by Dr. Swinehart, which dramatically improved my appearance. This of course helped me to secure my confidence in a world that judges people by appearance. I can tell you that Dr. Swinehart really cares about his patients, all over Colorado. He is compassionate, direct, listens, and will give you the results you are hoping for. Thank you Dr. Swinehart for your help over the years!!! I truly appreciate you and recommend you highly.

I like Dr. Swinehart and his staff. I see them at the La Junta Office. He has done a lot of removals on me. I never have a problem with the results. So what if an office has dated furniture.....that should not be an issue of his medical treatment. If it works, don't fix it....his office is always clean and I feel his medical treatment is great.

I should have read the reviews before I used Dr. Swinehart. The person performing the numbing was unaware of the use of Epinephrine and why it was used in this application. I was also glad I elected to only do one skin biopsy (of the 6 he proposed). Dr. Swinehart does his own pathology reports and the analysis consists of checking a diagnosis box rather than providing a written description. There is no independent review by a board certified pathologist.

The receptionist told my husband they accepted our health plan, without hesitation. Of course after the procedure we received the bill and they were not in network. We called and were told by the office staff that it was our responsibility to make sure they were in network. When we asked to speak to Dr. Swinehart and explain what had happened, we were told he would not take our calls and to write him a letter. Our letter explained the situation and requested that we be billed as self pay, which would have resulted in a discount of $200 to $350. NOPE, he wouldn't do that either. He just responded saying it was our "responsibility to make sure that their insurance covers any providers that they see". At what point is this Dr. Swinehart's responsibility to not give out false information (i.e. Do you accept our insurance? Answer - "We sure do"). Very disappointed.
