Having Golden Hour Beauty as my glam team for both my intimate ceremony and reception was one of the best decisions I made for my April 2025 wedding. I can't say enough wonderful things about Malia (make-up artist) and Maddie (hair stylist), the dynamic duo behind my glow-up.

My hair trial with Maddie took place in May 2024 when we were visiting the Big Island for wedding planning. From the moment we met, I immediately fell in love with Maddie’s charm, personality, wit, and of course, her craft. She gives off "big sister" vibes, which I absolutely LOVED — warm, bubbly, and easy to talk to. I felt incredibly comfortable in her chair as she worked her magic, adding bouncy curls to my hair. I explained that our wedding would be a two-day event, and I needed help looking my best on both days. For my intimate ceremony, I wanted big, bouncy curls, and for the reception, I envisioned a sexy, Pamela Anderson-style updo (which I later changed to a messy French twist). Initially, I planned on doing my own makeup because I’m picky about how it's applied, but after meeting Malia during my hair trial (since they share the same salon space), I thought, "You know what? Hell yeah, wanna do my makeup too?" LOL. I didn’t even do a makeup trial with Malia — I just went for it! Malia is soft-spoken, incredibly sweet, and just as charming and friendly as Maddie.

In the weeks leading up to my wedding, I texted Malia and Maddie my hair and makeup inspiration, along with photos of my dresses, so that we were all aligned on the same vision. For my ceremony, I wanted soft glam makeup with big bouncy curls, and for my reception, I wanted a sexy smokey eye, bold red lips, and a messy French twist. Wow. They far exceeded my expectations! I’ve never felt more beautiful in my life — and the best part? I still looked and felt like myself. I truly believe that makeup and hair should enhance your features, not change them, and these ladies totally understood the assignment. They took their time perfecting every detail of my face and hair, never rushing through the process. My mom and sister also had their hair and makeup done by them, and they absolutely loved the way they looked.

Over the course of our two-day wedding event, we spent hours together, and the atmosphere they created was loving, caring, positive, and so much fun. On my ceremony day, I teared up when I finally saw myself in the mirror — I truly felt immaculate.

A huge thank you to Malia and Maddie for not only helping me look beautiful on the outside but for making me feel beautiful on the inside as well. Maddie did wedding day hair for me (the bride) and my six bridesmaids, and she absolutely nailed it. I wanted a beachy chignon updo; the style Maddie gave me was perfect! She was great at creating the perfect look for everyone’s hair texture and length. She listened to what everyone wanted and made sure everyone felt comfortable with their final look. All of our hairdos stayed put during a windy & 85-degree wedding! Maddie is so lovely and friendly. I can’t recommend her highly enough!

Maddie and Malia have such a great vibe and meshed perfectly with our girls. They were not only friendly but also incredibly professional. I did a hair and makeup trial with them a few days before the wedding, and after thinking it over, I decided to go in a completely different direction. Maddie and Malia are both so, so individually talented in their craft, and as a result, make such a fantastic duo for your hair and makeup needs.

I hired Golden Hour Beauty to do my hair and makeup for my wedding day, along with three others, including my mom and MIL. I mention my mom and MIL because it shows the range in which Maddie and Malia are able to work with. I imagined my bridal look to be young and modern, while my mom and MIL preferred to appear more mature and less made up (mostly due to their nervousness of never really getting their hair and makeup done professionally), and both Maddie and Malia nailed it! My mom was over the moon with her hair and makeup, and loved that so many folks mentioned how young she looked. I think they both felt like the best versions of themselves.

As for myself, I was entirely elated with the end result. Maddie did my hair, checked in with me, applied "edits," and repeated the process until I was 100% satisfied. I have a LOT of hair and was worried we wouldn't be able to successfully achieve the up-do I wanted, but Maddie tackled it with no fear and the end result was exactly what I wanted.

I was in awe of Malia and her work. I showed her a picture of what I was hoping for and she asked a few questions and then went to work. I wanted to look like a natural Hawaiian beauty and didn't really have a lot of preferences or specifics - just knew that I wanted to look like an elevated version of myself. And Malia completely nailed it. Being in her chair and seeing her do her thing was truly an honor. I don't know how to explain it other than a feeling of knowing that you are in good, safe, talented hands.

My wedding day was probably the most beautiful I've ever felt and a lot of it was due to the talent of Maddie and Malia at Golden Hour Beauty. I wish there were many more instances or events in life where I could work with them to get my hair and makeup done! Highly recommend these two, you won't be disappointed.
