What a refreshing relief from the standard corporate all look alike places like the Clarion in Eureka. This place has charm and taste and old world sensibilities. The rooms are small, but charming. The lobby is tasteful. There is a fantastic sushi restaurant just off the lobby. One of the best anywhere. The hotel is located right on the main plaza of Arcata, where there are lots of charming shops and nice restaurants.
The staff is terrific. Easy parking.

Great hotel, especially if you want to stay right downtown. The rooms are cool, the shower water pressure is great! The heat is weird- it's a radiator... Not sure if it ever came on, but we didn't freeze. Skip the continental breakfast.

The hotel is very charming and has cute vintage features. The location is great! It's nicely in the center of everything. I'm pretty small and I found the rooms to be super cramped so I'm not sure how that'll fair for the average or large sized person. Also, the room had a weird wooden chair tucked into a corner that would have probably suited a mini fridge better. My room has a ridiculous amount of gnats which was frustrating. It was super affordable though so I will give them that. It's a solid place if you really just need a shower and bed.

Smells like my great grandmother's house bed hard as a brick and yelling outside my window that doesn't lock and grabbed my bag n checked right back out ! Only there for 30 mins maybee and now they won't refund my money after staring all this ! The manager is super rude and hung up on me and said weee done here... what kinda biz is this Horible way to be treated !! Don't rent a room here!!!

It's been several years since I stayed here but from the recent pictures, I prefer the colorful historic flair. The rooms were brightly decorated & the old bathtub was charming. There's no A/C which alarmed this Texan but I learned soon that I could open the windows (no screens!) & let in the cool northern CA breeze with no mosquitoes. One night I heard noises beneath my open 3rd floor windows; looked out & there were men crawling under the shrubbery. I called the desk & reported it; the cops came & about 8 men crawled out! That was their bed for the evening! I learned the next day it's common especially in Humboldt Cty which is full of free spirits with no responsibilities.
The walk to the gorgeous forest is not very far & the plaza has brilliant flowers & charming businesses. It was "far out, man!"

I'm not sure why the reviews are poor. We stayed here almost two weeks ago, on our way to the Redwood National Park. The hotel is historical and over 100 years old and in great shape for its age. If you want new modern you should probably go elsewhere. Tomo sushi was also really good, even my kids liked it. The only small complaint my kids had was the breakfast, which was just bagels, oatmeal and yogurt. But it's not worth giving a poor rating over. Would stay there again for sure.

Mixed bag. Lovely feel and vibe but if you are unlucky enough to have a room facing the square there are drunk/high revealers screaming and singing and dancing and drumming and their dogs barking well past midnight and it’s loud as hell. I have a third floor room, arrived today from Boston and I cannot sleep because the partying down in the square. The singing was charming at 7pm. Now I wish I could move rooms. It’s horrid and I’m exhausted and it’s not a weekend. This is a regular weekday. I love the hotel and during the day it’s lovely. But this inability to sleep erases the charm. If I return I will bring a white noise machine and only stay if I can get a room that doesn’t look down on the square. (Pictured is the folks who are on hour six of a their public concert below my room and it’s brutal)

The staff are friendly and accommodating- we were going to arrive late and all we had to do was call in and notify them. Location is pretty central to a lot of small businesses via walking. Although there are a good amount of homeless people staying in the center (right across from the hotel), they keep to themselves. Parking is super easy and the hotel provides free overnight parking passes to hang in your car. They’ll let you know where to park.
