The Mariposa County Visitor Center and Chamber of Commerce is located along Hwy 140 near the northwest end of the town. Opening hours are 8am to 5pm daily.

This is a good place for information related to the historic attractions of the small town of Mariposa as well as events that might be taking place in the town. You can pick up a free map of the Old Town with location of the historic places to visit here at the Visitor Centre.

We found staff here helpful in describing hikes in the are as well. They recommended the Merced River hike to see wildflowers that were starting to appear at the end of April. This ended up being a good recommendation.

You can pick up information and maps for Yosemite National Park at this visitor centre as well. Further, you'll find a gift shop room with souvenir and related items for those interested.

Parking in front is limited to probably 6-8 vehicles at a time. There was nobody else there when we stopped by in the late morning so this will probably not be an issue for most who want to pass by.

Stopped in after a long slog up from Monterey hoping to get a look at a sequoia before I croak. Phil, the nice man behind the desk, was incredibly helpful and efficient. Had all my options figured out in no time. *Really* helped with our continued travel decisions. Oh, and I've found the quote that I had wanted to share with him. "People who confuse entomology and etymology bug me in ways I can't put into words.” 🙂

Sho at the information center was immensely helpful when I arrived at the visitor center. Even though it was less than 20 minutes to closing, he still took his time to provide me all of the necessary materials for Yosemite and loads of excellent advice. He really took the time to go above and beyond and I appreciate that!

My husband and I were on our honeymoon driving up the California coast. We had a few days unplanned and made our way toward Yosemite, without knowing where we would stay. We stopped in the visitor's center, admittedly to use a restroom, and found the absolute most helpful and friendly people working there. They went out of their way to help us find a place to camp near the Mariposa Grove, where we wanted to visit the next day. They were very informative about the area, places to see, and how to see them. We were very happy with the cute little campground we stayed at for $23, it was exactly what we needed for the night. I hope they get to see this review, because they really made our day!

The ladies were helpful. We went to the mining and mineral exhibit they suggested a must for any Rock hound. They had covered up the handicap parking space with a cigarette ash tray. I am handicap it was difficult walking down the steep hill. I am happy to say they moved the ash tray right away and there is now space, way to go ladies.

The hours on the website states open until 6:00 pm . I arrived at 5:00 pm to get information, purchase maps and souvenirs if mariposa and Yosemite. As I walked through the door, the gentleman working the front desk said he was closing in 45 seconds and was locking the door. I asked for a map and he slammed the Yosemite guide paper on the desk and said here it is. He was very rude. Don’t post you are open until 6, then close at 5:00 but more importantly greet your tourists with more respect.

Very helpful gentleman working there. One of the Restaurants he recommended we went to and enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
There is a gift shop of items that local Artists have made that are for sale. Quite reasonable. My wife did her wifely duties and purchased several items. 👍👍
