Number One Beauty is an absolute gem! The store is always so well-stocked with terrific products, and the children’s department is just adorable—perfect for a last-minute gift. I make sure to stop by every time I’m in the area visiting a friend, and it’s always such a fun shopping experience.

The owners are lovely and clearly have a great eye for selecting unique and high-quality items for the shop. Today, I picked up some gifts for a friend’s daughter and asked if they had gift bags for sale. Instead, they went above and beyond by wrapping everything beautifully themselves. I absolutely love this shop and will continue to visit whenever I’m in the area. Highly recommend!

Best Beauty Supply around, and I’m in Santa monica,So I don’t have to travel miles to get my favorite Redken shampoo., and all the color I need to Color my own hair. The owners and sales people are the best. Great gift place for Children’s accessories, Barbie things, purses. Gifts galore for everyone. The place is loaded with unique items. Check it out.

When you walk up to the storefront, the incredible window display literally draws you inside.

The staff is VERY knowledgeable on products and skincare and they are more than happy to give you advice or suggestions for different budgets.

Besides hair and beauty products there’s also makeup, lots of candles and soaps and you would not believe the amount of incredible gifts in this store for either yourself or a friend!

Do NOT miss the large backroom, it’s filled with so many amazing things, including really unique and high end childrens clothes, toys, gifts and accessories! There are even amazing pool floats! It’s really a fun experience to visit this store.

The ONLY downside is you come out with things you had no idea that you REALLY, REALLY NEEDED!!

This is a Montana Avenue must stop and shop!

This store is NUMBER ONE in quality and style. It’s in a very nice area pleasant to walk around and easy to park. The owner is so sweet and kind she kept her store open for me when I arrived right as they were closing. I found a new hair stylist whilst shopping in the store bc right next door or rather a couple buildings down the street is a really nice hair salon…inside the store there are an innumerable amount of great product lines and adorable cute bags, purses and other hair supplies etc. # ONE!!

Number One Beauty will always be the #1 beauty supply store to me. I've been buying almost all of my personal products as well as gifts here since they opened in the 80s. I joke the owners that we are all growing old together. It is a family run business. The owners, Mercedes and Jack, are the most wonderful and caring people you'd want to know, and many of their customers proudly call them family as well. They are loved and cherished by all of their customers because they go above and beyond the norm in stocking the finest and highest quality beauty products including make up, every aspect of hair care, the finest hair brushes, and the most esoteric accessories you didn't know were essential to your well-being! If there is a problem, they take it back, and if you want something special, they'll order it. The store is run beautifully and wisely, it is very organized and if you can't find what you want, they'll get it for you. What more could you ask for?

9.29.18: update: Still my favorite place to get advice and products.

2017: This place is a treasure in Santa Monica. The staff is very knowledgeable. I have been going here for years and have never been disappointed. And they carry products you will never ever find in the more commercial places like Ultra. For example, they are the only beauty supply I have found to carry Brett Freedman products. His eyebrow products are better than any other. And they have a special line hair products that have saved my swimming-every-day hair.

This is one local business it is very important to support. Besides having an incredible array of products, they know their products, and they take the time to know you and your face, and your needs. You'll see them outside all the time checking the makeup a customer just applied in the sunlight to be sure they got it just right. This is a good business run by the kindest most caring people. I offered 6 months ago to give them a yelp review. And here it is. Finally! (and I didn't change my opinion in all that time lol)

PS I just read the review saying the owner is not good to the employees. There must have been a reason if something odd happened. If you want to know how the owner is just look at his employees. If they go out of their way for you and have good spirit, believe me, their employer is a good man. I have watched their interchanges for years. That must have been a very odd day.

I used to live in Santa Monica for 13 years and loved to go to Number One...now I live in Culver City and I travel the distance to continue to shop there. The owners are lovely people and very knowledgeable about their products. They carry every company and product imaginable. If, you need Beauty Supply products, this is the only place to go. The sales people are very helpful but the owners are the best for obtaining valuable information. Number One is Number One!!!!!!
